So achingly sweet it almost gave me a toothache

MY RATING:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the story of Val, a curvy, confident trumpet player and Sam, a handsome, musical genius, upright bass player. Reading the first chapters of this book, I caught myself with little smirk of smile, amused and laughing at Val’s antics without even realizing it. Yet, this book was slow on the take off for me, it took a while for me to be immersed in the story and connect with the characters. I wished for more of the hilarious mishaps of Val falling into Sam at work and the buildup of her crush. The underlying story of the bet Sam takes with his friend Ian was unnecessary for me, it added an element of mistrust that did not sit right with me. I absolutely loved the dating lessons storyline, Sam and Val’s interactions during these scenes were hilarious and heartwarming.

I positively loved Val and her strength for everything she went through in her life with body issues. No matter your size, words and actions of others hurt and leave lasting scars. I found her strength to be admirable and loved that she found her style and confidence in swing dance. Her group of friends are ones any girl would be lucky to have, the Red Lipstick Coalition is my kind of gang.

And then there is Sam. He is a true player in every sense of the word- the way he plays his upright bass and the way he plays with Val’s heart strings like he doesn’t have a care in the world.
There were moments that I really loved Sam - his absolutely sweet words to Val to make her feel how truly beautiful she was and there were moments when I wanted to smack him for being so ignorant about his terrible friend Ian.

overall, a really sweet and fun book.
