Ash and Webster’s modern retelling of Wuthering Heights is beautifully written. They’ve perfectly captured the tragedy and devastation of the classic and applied it to a modern setting with their own spin on things. If you’re familiar with Wuthering Heights at all, reading Heath makes for a really unique experience. I absolutely loved it even though I couldn’t believe what I was reading at times.
When it comes to retellings of classics, it’s either hit or miss. This was absolutely a hit. I really enjoyed figuring everything out as they did not keep original names. The little Easter egg type details throughout were so fun for the literary nerd in me!
Heath is not a romance novel. If you’re wanting a book that’s hearts and flowers, this is not it. This is the story of madman, crushed by love and fueled by revenge. It’s a story about power, jealousy, betrayal, and the harsh reality that not all stories are happy stories. It’s deep, dark, twisted, and shocking. It’s also absolutely brilliant.
This story was filled with suspense, romance and angst.
While this story is dark, they’ve found a way to add a little lightness. It’s perfect. 100% perfect and no doubt the best novel I’ve read in 2018. Read it!
